Rezension zu "The Giver" von Lois Lowry
I read the novel “The Giver” by Lois Lowry in my english class and was really thrilled by the story. The book is about a twelve year old boy called Jonas who seems to live a perfect life in his community. This illusion shatters after his selection at the Ceremony of Twelve, an annual ceremony where the twelve year olds get their assignments. Through his training as the new Receiver of memory he finds out shocking things about the past and the real conditions in the world he lives in until he has to decide: Should he change everything or behave like the generations before?
I absolutely enjoyed reading this novel. It is very well written and has a fascinating dystopian setting. You can easily identify yourself with Jonas and experience with him the difficulties he has to face during the storyline. It makes you questioning your own life and realise how lucky we are to be able to decide things on our own. The only reason I didn’t rate it 5/5 is because although I really enjoyed reading it, it isn’t going to be one of my favourites and a book you can read again and again.
In my opinion everyone should give it a try.
