Richard is a modern day everyman; a middle-aged divorcee trading stocks out of his home. He has done such a good job getting his life under control that he needs no one. His life has slowed almost to a standstill, until two incidents conspire to hurl him back into the world. This story is set in Los Angeles

Kein Lebensretter, aber ein amüsantes, tolles Buch mit liebenswerten Charakteren.

This Book Will Save Your Life

A very vivid and entertaining read about how we need to dive into other people's life's in order to save ours. Richard Novak is a rich man, who has a nutritionist, a personal trainer, a masseuse and a housekeeper, however what he misses is a family. Estranged from his parents, his brother, his ex-wife and his son, he finds he has no one to call, when he ends up at the hospital one night. After this earth shattering-experience his boring, calculated life starts to spin. It starts with his meeting the humble and funny donut-Shop owner Anhil and ends with him becoming somewhat of a hero himself and re-connecting with his son. I have to admit that I bought the book just because of the cover (I LOVE the sight of those lush donuts), I had never heard of the author or the book itself, so it became one of those "I found something really worthwhile"-moments. The story is not exactly exciting, since it revolves around a men's re-entry into his life by entering other people's life's and making a difference. Yet, A.M. Homes draws characters, so flawed and insecure, yet so likable and funny one cannot help reading further. Her style of writing is clean, yet vivid and a pleasure to read.
