Rezension zu "His Request" von Ava March

Only marginally better than the main book
Sakukovor einem Jahr

Jasper and Nate have been together for a year now. They enjoy a sexy doctor and patient role playing session, and Nate asks Jasper to visit his best friend with him (the one he was in love with before).

This short story did not do much more for me than the main book did. The sex scene was another role playing one, and I found Nates very proper version of a doctor more off-putting then exciting.

The visit I liked a bit better. It's rather sweet and emotional, not much drama there, but that's something I rather missed in the book, so I enjoyed that even though not much was happening.

Rezension zu "His Client" von Ava March

Nothing works here.
Sakukovor einem Jahr

Nate has been in love with his straight best friend forever, but for his release he always visits the same prostitute, Jasper, with whom he shares a fondness of role playing and whom he can also unburden his heart.
Jasper is in love with his client, but there seems to be little chance that Nate will ever get over his unrequited love to his friend. So Jasper takes his savings and leaves the brothel and Nate.

Ava March is a bit hit or miss for me, but usually at least the sex scenes are good, so I had high hopes for something kinky in this one. I was sadly disappointed.

The sex scenes fell really flat for me. They were not all that kinky either.
One was Jasper role-playing as curious innocent with a touch of cross-dressing (he put on a shift), which I though was pretty stereotypical with uninspired acting, the other one was Jasper wearing a black corset, just that they didn't really do anything with it.

My main problem was, that the author did not really get into the characters  head-spaces. The scenes where descriptive, but I didn't get a sense, why they personally liked to play them very much. Also, there was just too much stuff happening, that was just handled in a sentence or two and than done with. It seemed too mechanical, technical and lacked passion and feeling.
Hell, I feel asleep reading the sex scenes, twice. That should just not happen.

The book also felt really short. The main characters stay pretty flat and I never got much understanding why they loved each other at all. They had not many interests and the character traits where mostly told not shown.
The plot didn't work for me, either. Everything felt chopped and sudden. Nate is in love with his best friend, then suddenly he isn't and wasn't for a long time, he loves Jasper now.
Jasper is waiting for Nate to stop pining for his friend, then suddenly he makes the decision to go away and forget Nate.
Then Nate tries to convince Jasper he does in fact love him while trying his hardest not to just say the damn words. And in the end Jasper is kinda like, ok, might as well get your stuff in here.
It's just very anticlimactic and unemotional and plain weird to me.

Rezension zu "Viscount's Wager (Gambling on Love)" von Ava March

Weakest part of the series. Over the top and sappy to the core
Sakukovor einem Jahr

As a young boy of 16 Anthony met Gabriel at a house party and they shared a kiss. Anthony thought he found "the one" but the next day Gabriel was seen kissing another girl and went on to marry her.
Seven years later Gabriel's wife just died and Anthony meets Gabriel in London. They rekindle their old feelings, but Gabriel proves elusive, just showing up at Anthony's place for a tumble in the bedroom now and then before disappearing again.

So, I liked the first two parts of the series just fine. but this one did not work for me.

I could not stand the main characters at all. Gabriel's constant guilt over one thing or the other got annoying very fast and I hated how he treated Anthony like a convenient fuck-buddy even though in his own head he was always going on about how much he adored and loved him. Shitty way to show that.

I liked the glimpses we got of Anthony in the other book, but here he seemed quite different. He just let Gabriel walk over him again and again because he loves him so much. The whole thing just did not feel like a healthy relationship at all. Also, all that seemed left from his teasing nature was replying "Do you?" to everything. Both men just did not inspire me to get invested in their relationship.

And then the end. The whole "one kiss at 16, destined forever" thing felt so sappy and over the top. Entirely unbelievable. I like my romance a little more balanced, a little more on the realistic side. Happy ends are nice, for this one everyone was just way too understanding and nice, that it did feel more like a fairy tale than a romance.

Also, I caught the "solution" for both of their problems after just quarter of the book or less, so there wasn't really much suspense. It was just so very on the nose.
