Inhaltsangabe zu „In the Dark“ von Chris Patchell

Marissa Rooney stands in her daughter’s empty dorm room, a half-used vial of insulin clutched in her trembling hand. Brooke has been missing for days. Her roommate hasn’t seen her since that night in the bar. And if Marissa has Brooke’s insulin, it means that Brooke does not. But Marissa isn’t alone in her terror. A phantom from her past is lurking in the shadows, waiting in the night, and holding her family captive… In the dark. "An edge-of-your-seat suspense novel. It scared the hell out of me. Read it with the lights on!" ~Robert Dugoni - Amazon #1 and New York Times bestselling author of My Sister's Grave

Throughout the whole book I was torn between loving and hating it. While the plot was inventive and had some surprising twists, at the same time it seemed crammed with curious convenient constructed coincidences and sometimes it also followed predictable paths. Why did the friend of the abducted girl not mention the helpful stranger to the police? Why didn't the police search for and interrogate all visitors of the bar that night, instead of getting an important hint just because of the bartender's initiative to do so on his own? There were several such situations in the storyline that felt implausible. On the other hand, the author did a great job building the characters, adding a lot of background information from their past to make their motives comprehensible. The book was definitely a fascinating, though not always satisfying read. (I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review)
