Inhaltsangabe zu „Fight Club [Paperback]“ von Chuck Palahniuk

Fight Club Every weekend, in basements and parking lots across the country, young men with good white-collar jobs and absent fathers take off their shoes and shirts and fight each other barehanded for as long as they have to. Then they go back to those jobs with blackened eyes and loosened teeth and the sense that they can handle anything. Full description (Quelle:'Flexibler Einband/01.05.2006')

I confess I haven't seen the movie yet. In general, I prefer to read the novels first. But reading this, I realized this was way better than any movie made anywhere, good as that may have been. I am in a bit of a fix here. I want as many people as possible to read this, yet at the same time I don't want to spoil it by telling it all in advance. All I can say is, I was totally overwhelmed by this book. It wasn't "beautiful" in any way; but neither was "Trainspotting", which I also loved. Does a book have to be "beautiful" or "literary" to get you thinking, or to turn your world upside down? Fucking hell, no it hasn't! As I read along, I felt that THIS is what people are actually thinking, all the time, around the world. Everywhere there are frustrated young men without fathers, fighting literally for their lives, fighting for their right to define who they are... and boy, could I understand them! This is what a good book should do: make you see and feel something you never even would have considered before. No, dear reader of this review, I won't tell you the synopsis in detail. I won't do all the work for you, and pre-digest a book you should fucking well read yourself. If you are really interested, go and get it. It is worth every damn minute.
