Connor Franta

I really wish I could hand this book to my 20-year old self! Unfortunately I am now past my 30s, so many of the topics addressed by youtube sensation Connor Franta, are already well and square past me. Still, I immensely enjoyed reading his, well, biography.

I stumbeled across this little gem due to a recommondation I read somewhere and I didn't know about Connor Franta before nor had watched his youtube channel. At first I was sceptical: a biography by 22 year old? and a youtubeer on top? Seriously??? However, my sceptizism vanished as soon as I started to read said book.

Connor is a well-grounded person from a stable family background, so no whiny "I had it so baaaaaaad"-tale from the gettho. He describes his life from his childhood up to his move to L.A. and his decision to really become a full-time youtuber with all its ups and downs. He addresses issues such as friendship, love, self worth and the addiction to electrical devices in a very straight forward and amusing way. Never with a raised finger. His stories say: "Hey, I understand, I can relate, you are not alone/crazy.", which is, in my opinion a beautiful message especially for those coming-of-age readers.

Another thing that has to be mentioned is the innovative layout of the book. It is garnished with lots of pictures taken by Connor, contributions by his parents (letters) and other fun stuff. This really made for quite an entertaining read.

If you are or have a young person struggling with the craziness of growing up, don't hesitate to pick up this book. Even for me, it was a good reminder to not stress about so much and to re-focus on what's really important.

Generell finde ich es sehr schwer eine Biografie von jemandem zu bewerten, deshalb fiel mir die Angabe mit den Sternen sehr schwer. Dieses Buch, das ja nun mal sehr persönlich ist, hat mir Connor gleich noch viel sympathischer gemacht, als er eh schon war. Ich bin kein wirklicher Fan, aber ich mag ihn eben doch. In diesem Buch erzählt er von sehr vielen wichtigen Momenten seines Lebens. Es ist sehr schön geschrieben und leicht verständlich. Durch die vielen Fotos wirkt das Ganze einfach noch persönlicher und macht Spaß zu lesen. Man spürt förmlich, dass ihm das ganze am Herzen lag und mit wie viel Seele es geschrieben wurde. Man kann lachen, fast schon mitweinen und irgendwie schafft er es, dass man sich einfach besser fühlt. Wir machen alle das gleiche durch und das zeigt er sehr eindrucksvoll. Wer Connor mag und gerne englisch liest, der sollte sich dieses Buch auf jeden Fall anschauen!
