I love Debbie Tung's books and her talent to express her personal development artistically.
Deeply honest she shows her true self during late adolescence and early adulthood – struggling with teenage angst and disordered eating and her multifariously way to self-love.
Drawing with passion and panache
With lots of loving detail Debbie reveals her innermost thoughts and her fight against her own body - on the assumption a perfect body leads to a happy and satisfying life.
In black and white Debbie withdrew more and more, refused food and trained until exhaustion. She sank down in a word view, characterized by fear, uncertainty and even outright despair. Fuelled by the representation of apparently perfect bodies of celebrities (in the 90s publishes on tv and in magazines) and other people's expectations of her she gets even thinner and weaker.
Little by little Debbie recognizes her wrong way, how her family worries about her and her angle of vision changes. She becomes more confident, grateful for her own body and strength and sees the world in colors again.
A beautiful, sensitive and outstanding reminder of self-love and appreciation of one’s own power.
