This was my first book by E. L. Dubois and it was a great listen. I look forward to listening to more books by the author.
Shy and rather invisible Sailor meets hip Saxton at the end of her high school years. The spark is there, but they lose sight of each other.
Years later, the two meet again by chance. Saxton is a sports star who joins his hometown club. Sailor is responsible for his public relations, and she now has a much more confident demeanor.
Do the two have a second chance? The mutual attraction is still there after so many years. You could feel it directly when listening.
I found Sailor and Saxton likeable from the beginning. Sailor goes her way, but she has built a wall around her heart. Saxton is incredibly sweet, he is very attentive and a protector type.
"What would it take" is a sweet and romantic story about second chances. It is also quite suspenseful with quite a few twists and turns. Some you can expect, others are unexpected.
Elizabeth Blakely did an excellent job of reading the audiobook and giving the characters the appropriate voices. I also liked her intonations and the rhythm of her speech.
