A struggling widow accepts a nanny job with the wealthy Whitmore family, hoping for a fresh start. But behind the luxury mansion and seemingly perfect neighborhood, something feels wrong. The children are frightened and leave strange clues, while each family member seems to be hiding secrets. As the nanny digs deeper, she realizes she may be trapped in a dangerous situation and must uncover the truth before it's too late.

I love nanny thrillers, so this one immediately caught my attention. The pacing at the beginning was great, and the writing was super easy to read.I flew through the first half of the book.

That being said, I thought it was really weird how quickly the nanny became so emotionally attached to the kids. Like, girl, you've known them for five minutes. The character development just didn't feel believable to me, and it made some of her decisions hard to buy into.

Then around the halfway mark, the story took a direction that I honestly didn't enjoy at all. It just felt completely off compared to where I thought things were heading. And while the first half moved quickly, the second half somehow dragged forever before finally reaching the climax. The pacing definitely felt uneven.

Also, the nanny herself drove me NUTS. She's repeatedly told not to trust anyone, yet she keeps spilling secrets and sharing information with literally everyone she meets. Then she'd act shocked when those people turned out to be untrustworthy. Like... what did you expect? Honestly, she is not the kind of protagonist I'd want beside me in a life-or-death situation. She'd be telling every suspect our entire game plan.

And the big twist at the end? Wow. Surprise. I saw it coming from a mile away and found it pretty obvious and uninspired. Same goes for the ending, it felt like something I've read a dozen times before and didn't bring anything particularly fresh to the table.

All in all, I still had a good time with this thriller and don't regret reading it. But from the halfway point onward, I spent most of the book rolling my eyes and questioning everyone's decisions.

Der Thriller hat mich zuerst aufgrund der originellen Idee angesprochen, über eine Playlist Hinweise zu übermitteln. Im Nachhinein betrachtet finde ich die Umsetzung doch etwas umständlich, es wäre auch einfacher machbar gewesen, aber dennoch mal eine erfrischende Idee, die sich durch die Geschichte zieht. Die Frage, wie gut kennt Marissa den Mann an ihrer Seite, den sie liebt, wirklich? – sucht nach Antworten, die teilweise auch in eine andere Richtung deuten, als sie es sich gedacht hätte. Die Spannung wird zu Beginn schnell aufgebaut und bleibt konstant hoch, es gibt auch zahlreiche Wendungen und Cliffhanger, die dies noch zusätzlich untermauern. Als Charakter finde ich Melissa glaubwürdig, sie lässt uns Leser*innen auch an all ihren Emotionen teilhaben, von Wut, Trauer, Hoffnung – und immer im Vordergrund das Wohl ihres Sohnes. Zu den weiteren Charakteren konnte ich aufgrund des Tempos weniger Tiefe aufbauen, was ich etwas schade finde. Das Ende war nicht ganz nach meinem Geschmack, ohne jetzt zu viel verraten zu wollen.

Hatte jetzt keine großen Erwartungen was diesen Thriller betrifft. Hab mit so einem "Hausfrauen Thriller" a la Mann ist weg und Frau spielt Detektiv, aber alten Ar*ch. Das ging sowas von in eine andere Richtung.

Die Spannungskurve war stets hoch und gefühlt auf jeder Seite gestiegen.

Marissa ist keine Hausfrauen Mami wie sie durch jahrelange Toxic erst dachte, sie mausert sich für ihre Familie zur absoluten Kämpferin. 

Elle hat so einen tollen Schreibstil der mich sofort gefangen hat und ich mit Marissa gekämpft, geweint und mit gehasst habe. Ich hab es eher selten das ich Protagonisten in Büchern hasse, aber hier hätte ich bei manchen Szenen am liebsten zugeschlagen, so sehr hab ich die gehasst für ihr Verhalten Marissa gegenüber. 

Wie schon erwähnt entwickelt sich das in eine Richtung die nicht ersichtlich war. Ich als Leser hab mit gerätselt, aber immer wieder kamen Enthüllungen die mich haben Zweifeln lassen und somit das Ende überraschend gemacht haben.

Diese Kommunikation die Marissa mit ihrem Mann hatte in Form von Songtexten hat die Autorin sehr gut eingesetzt und war mal was anderes.

Wer mal wieder Bock auf einen richtig guten Thriller hat dem kann ich "sag mir, dass du mir vertraust " nur empfehlen.
