(Quelle:'Flexibler Einband/16.06.2005')

Well written, sadly it didn't really captivate me

    Seven Types of Ambiguity

The title of this book was taken from a book on literary criticism by William Empson, first published in 1930. This seems to me quite ambitious and I was really hoping that this book would fullfill my expectations, however, it sadly didn't. The story of old lovers, where one just cannot let go, engages into a weird relationship with a prostitute and ends up kidnapping his old beloved son, thus setting a string of actions in motion, is weird enough for me to actually like it. Still, the tempo in which it is being told, lead to me being distracted, wanting to skip pages. This effect was reached by the way the story is told: the people involved tell the story and one usually gets who is talking only after a while, it is thus that the story enfolds in a somewhat tenacious way and even though the story has the potential to be a page-turner, it sadly isn't. The plot is interesting and all, but it just takes too much time. I am sure that other (less impatient) readers won't find so much fault with the book, but as for me, it really didn't tickle my fancy.
