With Mission City, the author has created a wonderful small town that I love to visit. Her writing style is excellent, and I found this book quite captivating, thanks to the mysterious events in the town and the drama at the fire station.
I’d recommend reading “Finn’s Find” first, since this story picks up where that one left off.
Even in *Finn’s Find*, the chemistry between the two was immediately palpable. Finn is a firefighter in Mission City. Ulysses is an investigative journalist who moved to town for the job. Both have interesting backstories.
They meet regularly at a bar. Finn is happy to answer questions about mysterious events in Mission City over a meal. And there are quite a few mysterious events in town: drugs, fires, missing dogs. And I actually found the animals from the shelter pretty cute.
I was guessing right up until the end about who might be behind all these incidents.
The relationship between Finn and Ulysses develops slowly and believably. And I found it understandable that Ulysses’s behavior made Finn suspicious.

Michael Dean narrated the audiobook, and he did a phenomenal job of bringing Ulysses and Finn to life. His reading style is quite varied; I could easily distinguish between the characters, and as always, it was a pleasure to listen to him.

Leo's Lust is a short, crisp, and thoroughly enjoyable read. Leo and Quinton meet here—I'm already looking forward to the next volume, which is about Quinton. But I was also curious about Leo's story, because I didn't find him very likable in Gideon's Gratitude. But it's nice that we can hear his story here.
I like the stories from Mission City. As always, narrator Michael Dean has done an excellent job! A well-written and very well-narrated story.

It's about Rob, who flees from his abusive husband in order to protect the children and himself. The story begins in the hospital and we learn in retrospect what happened. Rob manages to make a new start far away in Gaynor Beach with the help of a social worker after he has left the town with nothing but the clothes on his back.
I really liked Rob from the beginning, I found him very likeable, especially when you see how he fights for his children. Also, looking back, he had a hard time during his marriage.
In Gaynor Beach he meets Danny, who is struggling with his medical studies and other health problems.
The writing style is good and I quickly got into the story, which was slow going at first - there were lots of details.
But at some point I found that too much happened too quickly. Rob never really had time to come to terms with his past. Danny was very gentle with Rob, but the development from friendship to a relationship and then onwards happened a little too quickly for me.
The highlights for me were the children and the dog, they were absolutely adorable. I really liked these passages.

The audiobook was narrated by Michael Ferraiuolo and he did a really good job. He gave the characters suitable voices and the emotions were absolutely believable. He read with variety and brought the story to life.
