My expectations raised by the cover image where duly satisfied with this creature story. While I did not agree with some of the decisions made by the main character, Sam, I could understand her struggle between working hard to provide for her kids and being a single mother, never having enough time to spend with her family. So when Sam was asked to investigate a series of mysterious drownings and was forced to take her children with her, it seemed like a godsend when they were taken in by Sam's grandfather, whom she had not seen since childhood. But as this is no fairy tale, the story does not stop here with a happy end. When Sam remembers strange visions from the past, she soon realizes that the evil threat has been here all the time and closer than she could have imagined. Will she be able to stop it in time before more people have to die?
While I enjoyed reading this fast-paced and creepy tale, I was slightly disappointed by the ending which, though it presented a consistent solution, felt somewhat anticlimactic in comparison. I wonder if a possible sequel will follow - I would definitely want to learn what happened next.
