Little Jean Louise, called Scout, who lives with her older brother Jem, their widowed father Atticus and the black housemaid Calpurnia in the small town Maycomb, Alabama awaits every summer when her friend Dill comes to town for a visit at his aunts house. The three children conspire different ways of catching a glimpse of Boo Radley, the neighbors son, who hasn’t been seen for years. He is a spooky mystery fot the children and to put a foot on the Radley ground seems to be the greatest test of courage to them. One day on their way to school Scout and Jem detect small things, like soap figures and good-luck pennies in a knothole in a tree. They assume Boo Radley to deposit the presents for them and fantasize about his reasons.

Soon the grevious case of the black farmworker Tom Robinson who has been accused of raping the white girl Mayella Ewell engages Atticus Finch his family and the entire township. The citizens of Maycomb mostly do not understand why Atticus defends Tom and demands justice and a fair trail for him.

Harper Lees Pulitzer Prize Winner “To kill a mockingbird” is the humorous story of a childhood filled with friendship and a story about the severe racial injustice viewed through the eyes of a child. The characters of Jean Louise, her brother Jem and especially their father Atticus are lovely, full of humor and all of them with a big heart full of mercy and emotional intelligence. An exciting page-turner!
