In Charlemont, Kentucky, the Bradford family is the crème de la crème of high society—just like their exclusive brand of bourbon. And their complicated lives and vast estate are run by a discrete staff who inevitably become embroiled in their affairs. This is especially true now, when the apparent suicide of the family patriarch is starting to look more and more like murder…
No one is above suspicion—especially the eldest Bradford son, Edward. The bad blood between him and his father is known far and wide, and he is aware that he could be named a suspect. As the investigation into the death intensifies, he keeps himself busy at the bottom of a bottle—as well as with his former horse trainer’s daughter. Mit "The Angels´ Share" stellt J.R.Ward ihren zweiten Band der SÜdstaatensaga rund um die Erben des Bradford-Imperiums vor. Nahtlos setzt sie ans Ende des ersten Romans "The Bourbon Kings" an und berichtet von Lanes Kampf, das Familienunternehmen am Laufen zu halten und über die Verusche, Licht ins Dunkel der verschwundenen Millionen des Familienvermögens zu bringen.
Ward schreibt die Geschichte hier nicht rund um einen Protagonisten pro Roman, sondern erzählt parallel mehrere Handlungsstränge, die jedoch auch miteinander verknüpft sind. Gekonnt werden die einzelnen Schicksale der geschwister Lane, Edward, Gin und Maxwell entwickelt. Insgesamt finde ich die Umsetzung ausgewogen und gut durchdacht.
Besonders hervorzuheben sind die fantastischen Charaktere. Von J.R.Ward und ihrer BlackDagger-Reihe ist man bereits s ehr plastische und lebhafte Charaktere gewohnt. Dies setzt sie auch bei den Bourbon Kings in gewohnter Weise fantastisch um. Für mich schafft es kein Autor so wie Ward, den Charakteren Leben einzuhauchen. Als Leser hat man so das Gefühl, man würde die Charaktere schon ewig kennen und kann sich ein sehr genaues Bild von ihnen machen. Das Kopfkino läuft also auf Hochtouren.
Tolle Dialoge, eine spritzige Sprache, atemberaubende Schauplätze, Dramatik, dunkle Geheimnisse, Skandale und große gefühle erwarten den Leser in diesem Buch.
