Loki and his Reapers gear up for the final battle sooner rather than later. Both sides, the Panthenon as well as Lokis troops, try everything to get their hands on artifacts of power to enhance their chances of winning the oncoming war.

As Nikes Champion Gwen is right in the middle of it and she still hasn’t told her friends that a) she’s the one supposed to kill Loki and b) has exactly zero idea how to accomplish that task. Weakened he might be, but he’s still a god and well, she’s not.

When Linus Quinn, Logans father and head of the Protectorate, asks her to take a look at some artifacts seized from a Reaper hideout and use her psychometry on them, she’s more than willing to do that, still hoping to find something strong enough to kill the Trikster god. There actually IS an artifact among the weapons, jewelry and whatnot that could do the trick but unfortunately the friendly forces are not the only ones to know that.

After the failed attempts to restore Lokis strength, the Reapers, led by his Champion Vivian Holler and Linus former wife Agrona, slowly run out of options to heal their God. As a result, their actions to get their hands on artifacts of power become more and more bold. When they kidnap Gwens Grandma Frost and offer to exchange her for the one thing that has the power to heal their Master all bets are off.

For Linus handling over the candle is not an option and even if Gwen can perfectly understand his reasoning, it’s her Grandmothers live that’s at stake and she can’t – won’t – stand by and let her be killed. Even if that means risking just about everything, if her not so foolproof plan fails.

Gwen is back to being herself again, stubborn, smart-assed and finally growing into her role as the goddess champion. She and Logan found some solid ground even if the road to happiness is bumpy at times :)

I became very fond of her friends along the way, they are brave, loyal (to a fault sometimes :) and see right through most of Gwens bullshit immediately. Unwavering they stay at her side, even in her more “not so smart” moments.

As far as the villains go, I liked Vivian – Gwens evil counterpart – best. She’s a real bitch but with character. Agrona is just there and Loki well, he was too one-dimensional for my taste.

“Killer Frost” wraps the whole story up pretty nicely. There are no loose ends and the grand finale was not a total surprise but well written. It seems to me, that even in the last book of the series Jennifer Estep never lost her fondness of her favorite words or phrases. But at least she kept the repetitions down to an acceptable amount.

Overall a satisfying end to a series I (mostly) enjoyed reading.
