This book is a nightmare consisting solemnly of stereotypes, out-dated views on gender and society, flat and boring characters and the authors urge to make sure the reader does not miss one bit of information given to them.
I was actually quite enthusiastic at the beginning as I have not read any crime novel in a long time but boy what this book a huge disappointment. The detective's wife has exactly two things that define her: wine and wanting to have a baby but being incapable of conceiving. Abortion is evil and cannot be spoken about. Every single character has a deep and disturbing problem or secret such as alcoholism, an affair, murder, molesting children etc. And whenever they or the narrator gets the chance, they will tell us about in in detail. There is no such thing as wanting the reader to form their own opinion on a character - bloody no, give them every bit of information, preferable delivered in cringe worthy, unnatural dialogue.
Why the second star then?
Well, at least the whole case made sense and was kind of interesting, while still being way too stretched out..
