Rezension zu "Traceless: Some people should never be found...: 1 (The Ellis Jones Mysteries)" von Joanne Clancy
CattieI recieved my copy of "Traceless" through goodreads and am very happy that I had the chance to read this pageturner.
I read a lot of good reviews of the book and I read it quite fast, because I wanted to find out the truth. :)
Story:
Adam and his girlfriend Darcey are on a trip in Ireland and on the road in the mountains. When a car appears behind them and implys them to stop because of a exhaust-problem, Adam gets out of the car and is never be seen again. The unknown man ties darcey up, but she can escape.
The police has doubt in Darcey's story, because some things don't match up. Adam isn't be seen again, dead or alive. What really happend that night in the forest? Police officer George Ellis and reporter Gina Jones are eager to find out.
Characters:
From the beginning, I knew I wouldn't like Darcey. She is selfish, egoistic and seem to care not a bit about her missing boyfriend.
We don't know what their relationship was like, but it seems that Adam took the relationship more serious than she did.
Adam is the missing (or dead) guy and I hoped for him to be found alive, that be maybe faked his death, because that would give him a depth in his character and a nice plot twist.
George Ellis and Gina Jones are two people, trying to find out the truth. We know that they had a history together, but their relationship is just mentioned a few short times.
All in all, the characters all are a bit to superficial. I would have liked a bit more depth in them, it would have given the readers a chance to understand them and their reactions and behaviour.
Nevertheless, I think it wouldn't have changed something in the story, so ...
Writing:
The book is one, you can read fast. The story isn't too complicated and I had no difficulties to kepp up with it, even if there're a lot of details in Darcey's story and the investigations.
I like the writing style of Clancy, because it is so fluently and she hasn't wasted time with unrelevant parts which would just have been a distraction in this thiller.
I read that there ought to be a lot of plot twists, but I never was really suprised when something new was revealed. In this regard, I was a bit disappointed, because I thought there were more dramatically twists and turns in the story.
Furthermore, the ending was a unsatisfying.
I give 4 of 5 cable tie handcuffs for this book. I was entertained while reading and I think this is the task of a book.
