Dead Man’s Island is written by John Escott, he writes books for people who start reading in English. I've read this with a boy whom I tutor in english.
The story is easy to read and understand, plus it's really short with lots of pictures. There is nothing to exciting and it is kinda predictable since the book title gives everything away.
Synopsis:
A ne'er-do-well exploits his gentle daughter's beauty for social advancement in this masterpiece of tragic fiction. Hardy's 1891 novel defied convention to focus on the rural lower class for a frank treatment of sexuality and religion. Then and now, his sympathetic portrait of a victim of Victorian hypocrisy offers compelling reading.
My thoughts and opinion:
Sad to say that I did not finish this book. I read about 100 pages and just had to stop. I was so excited to read a "classic" but this made me remember why I don't read classics: they're mostly overrated.
Das Lesen hat mir sehr viel Spaß gemacht. Das kurze Buch ist wie ein Comic aufgebaut, jedoch haben mir die Zeichnung hier leider nicht so gut gefallen, sie wirken ein bisschen "einfach", also nicht vergleichbar mit Manga's.
Das Englisch ist leicht zu lesen, ich musste lediglich 1 oder 2 Wörter nachschlagen. Für Anfänger echt gut geeignet.
