Not expecting much of this book for teenagers, I was astonished at the fact that I couldn't put it aside and read it within a day! A really sweet read that definitely belongs into the hands of a teenager struggling with conformity!

It is Jessie's Sophomore year in High school (10th grade) and eventhough she hasn't changed a lot over the summer, her two best friends Bizza and Char certainly have. Instead of just hanging out and doing normal (uncool) stuff, they try to suck up the the punk kids, to whom Jessis's brother and her alltime crush Van also belong.

However, when not only her brother parts with the punk kids and Bizza betrays her in a way that cannot be forgiven, Jessie has to face the essential High-School-Question: Where do I (want) to belong? She struggles in finding her identity within the fractured social groups of High School, finally accepting that cool doesn't actually mean cool and that friends can come in all sorts and shapes.

Jessie is a quirky, fun character in whom I could see a lot of myself at that age. She is insecure but not to a freakish level and deals with usual teenager stuff. The style of the books is fun and easy to read, written by a current High School librarian and even if you're already past your High School days, it is still a nice read.

The F-It List ist kein Buch für junge Mädchen, ich kann mir gut vorstellen, dass einige Eltern Probleme damit haben, wie explizit manche (Sex-)Szenen dargestellt werden und ich selbst wüsste nicht, ob ich meine 14-Jährige Tochter dieses Buch lesen lassen würde.

Es fällt mir sehr schwer meine Meinung in Worte zu fassen. Wie Alex mit der Krankheit ihrer besten Freundin umgeht und versucht, das alles zu überstehen und für sie da zu sein wirkt auf mich sehr realitätsnah und ehrlich. Julie Halper nimmt kein Blatt vor den Mund, wenn es um die Auswirkungen der Krankheit geht und verschönert die Situationen in keinem Moment.

Die Liste rückt meiner Meinung nach ein bisschen in den Hintergrund, es ist etwas, an das Alex sich klammert und mit dem sie Becca unterstützen will, aber der Fokus des Buches liegt viel eher darauf, dass Alex mit sich selbst kämpft und versucht alles richtig zu machen und auch einsieht, wenn sie Fehler macht. Mir hat ihre Entwicklung über das Buch hinweg sehr gut gefallen.

Was mir auch sehr gut gefallen hat, ist die Liebesgeschichte. Sie nimmt keine zu große Rolle in dem Buch ein sondern spielt immer nur am Rand eine kleine Rolle, die nach meinem Geschmack genau richtig war.

Alles in allem war ich begeistert von dem Buch und konnte es nur schwer zur Seite legen. Ich hatte das Buch ohne Erwartung gekauft und bin jetzt umso erfreuter, dass es mir so gut gefallen hat.
