Bewerbung/Ich möchte mitlesen

Hello! My name is Kate Harrison and I'm the author of Soul Beach. It's the story of 16-year-old Alice and her fight to find the person who killed her older sister, Meggie. When she receives an email from Meggie, Alice uncovers a virtual world, an online paradise of sun, sea and sand. But why is Soul Beach only inhabited by the young, the beautiful and the dead? It's a thriller about the online world, sisters, justice and impossible love – they’re all themes that fascinate me!

PS: I am so excited by the German edition – I think the cover is fabulous.

Übersetzung:

Hallo!

Unfortunately yes.... People will spend their time infront of their Computer. There will be no need of friends,´cause they will be all online - there won´t be hugs and embraces. Some of us will have implants in our eyes or brain. Everybody seems to be his own hero: Independent, immortal and unbeatable - a total solitair....

The two worlds will became one more and more. I think this is not critical. It may helps the people to learn more about ther environment. Glasses with feature, smartphones digital books, all these thinks enlarge our own world. This development is unstoppable, i think. And i like it.

I'm so sorry that I haven't found the time to write down what I think about the last parts of the story so far. I just had too much work to do.

This part of the story is really creepy. Alice tries to find out what has happend to Meggie and her friends of the Soul Beach. So Alice meets Meggie's former friends including Sahara in a pub. Sahara invites her to visit Meggie's former room – the place where Meggie died. Saharas behaviour is really strange and creepy. At this moment i really thought she might kill Alice. And I also think that she could be Meggie's murderer. On the one hand, she has such a strange obsession with Meggie and on the other hand, she is not sad about her death.

At the same time Alice wants to find out more about Triti to help her out of the Soul Beach, because Triti hates this place more and more. Alice meets Lewis who is offering help without asking big questions. He is a kind of strange and I don't know what to think about him.

And last but not least, Alice seems to fall in love with Danny. Really, Alice? I mean, he is a ghost, an illusion or at least not real! You do not have any future with a love that doesn't exist. It's strange. I'm excited, how this story goes on. :)

I really, really love this book. I like the fact that have absolutely no idea who the killer is. Everybody seems to be a potential killer. I could even imagine that Lewis is the murderer. I don't know, he seems to be weird.

I am glad that Triti was able to leave the Soul Beach, but the consequences are quite confusing to me. Why does Alice get a reward? Do the operators of the Soul Beach want Alice to solve the uncommon deaths of the members?

And maybe someone can tell me the genre of Soul Beach? I thought it would be a thriller, but now I think it's a kind of fantasy. I'm quite confused, but I can't wait to read the next part. :)

Thanks so much for your lovely comments, Textverliebt - I am so happy you found the time to post. It's great that you enjoyed it so much, even though there are so many mysteries involved still.

I don't quite know what the genre is - thriller with a fantasy edge perhaps. What I love about writing with a teenage audience in mind is that you can cross the genres a little, but also you can appeal to adults who like a different approach!

@Cupcake_Princess

Thanks so much for your latest comments. It's true, Alice does some crazy things, but I guess I feel that for her, so many of her decisions are about the grief and desperation she's feeling...

I stayed in a little student room like Meggie's old room on a conference and imagined it as the scene of the murder - it was a very creepy space, somehow. So it was the obvious place to base the room on...

I'm afraid Alice continues to get into even more dangerous situations right until the final book in the trilogy! :)

@KleineMonii

Thanks so much for all your comments - sorry I haven't replied sooner. I found it so interesting to read your impressions and yes, there are many unanswered questions! And I loved reading about your list of possible suspects. Of course, I am not saying ANYTHING.

I always feel guilty in a way about leaving questions at the end of the first book, but there was so much more to say about Soul Beach the place so I had to make the story longer!

Thanks again - and I talk a little bit about the inspiration on this video:

Fragen an die Autorin / Questions to the author

I did just want to thank everyone who has very kindly read, commented on and reviewed Soul Beach.

It has been a really brilliant experience for me as an author to read all your comments and impressions - so enlightening! And thanks too for posting in English, I really appreciate it.

I have recorded a little video with a greeting in German (my accent is not as good as it was when I was at school, sorry) and a little about my inspiration in English.

Thanks again, and to LovelyBooks for hosting, it's been brilliant!
