How far would you go to protect your child? In this novella, James Kember does not shy away from the most horrific deeds to shield his son Eddie from danger. When local girl named Lilith, who also bullied Eddie, goes missing, Lilith's mother accuses James Kember, the town's famous horror author. But what did really happen? Soon, Eddie starts having nightmares of Lilith coming for him. When there is physical proof that his nightmares are more than just that, James suspects that Lilith's mother is out for revenge and he takes action to protect Eddie. Little does he know that it's really Lilith who has come back...The author did an amazing job portraying the father's love and devotion for his son, making his actions not excusable, but at least understandable. There were two clever plot twists, and while I anticipated the first one, despite of some obvious signs I was completely taken by surprise at the end. While I could not agree with James' brutal actions and mad justifications, both leading to a very insane and horrible end, I could understand his heartfelt motivation all too well. This story makes for a very macabre interpretation of the saying 'love is blind'...(I chose to read an ARC of this book - all opinions in this review are my own)
