A lot of people have recommended that book to me, so naturally I was very excited to finally read it and explore the story for my own.

Cinder is a retelling of the fairy tale Cinderella, but the setting is a totally different one. I like the construction of the world Meyer has written and would love to see it with my own eyes. To stand in Cinder's shop or on the place before the palace where Cinder first sees the Lunar Queen Levana.

I also love this new "Cinder". She's strong, she's sometimes sassy, she's loyal, she's a mechanic and she is a cyborg.
Her life is really miserable, however she makes the best of it, never complains but tries to live it as best as she can.
Prince Kai, of course, is a charming young man, the exact opposite of what you'd expect a prince to be. However, like in the original fairytale, he falls for the poor girl.

As I know Cinderella, most of the story was not exactly new or surprising for me. On the one hand, I love retellings, because they show a different site of well-loved stories, the authors come up with new, brilliant ideas and you get to see it all from a new point of view. On the other hand, though, that made the story a bit boring sometimes, as I knew what would come, that the prince would fall for Cinder or that she'd lose a shoe (or here: her foot) when she goes to the ball despite not being allowed to do so by her step-mother.

Furthermore, the plot-twist in the end really wasn't one, as it was pretty obvious who Cinder was from the beginning. I wish Meyer had written that a bit less obvious, so that it really would have been a surprise.

Nevertheless, I'm excited for the next books and how the author will bring in other fairy tales. I also hope to get a look at Lunar and Queen Levana, as I'm really interested in her now. The evil ones are always more interesting than the rest, don't you think?

I give 4 out of 5 stars for this book and Scarlet is already waiting for me on my shelf :)
