Rezension zu "LILLY'S TALE: THE MILK-BLOOD TRILOGY" von Mark Matthews
I already read all three stories in this trilogy on their own, but I immediately jumped at the possibility to read them again and together in one piece. While I was aware what awaited me and that it would be no easy or comfortable read, I couldn't remember all the details, so it was still - and again - a shocking and surprising reading experience. Maybe this time my mind was not as much numbed by the grisly scenes with needle pricking and the brutal drug addiction business and I was able to better focus on the characters. But while all my sympathies went out to Lilly, I hardly found any other likable character.
As before, the first part had the most impact, as Lilly's story filled most of the pages and the story was mainly told from her POV. In contrast, I didn't care much about the characters that filled the second part, where Lilly was not as present. The last story is kind of a prequel presenting the depressing background of one of the other main characters.
Reading all three parts together made several details and connections more clear to me, as I had all information still fresh in mind. However, it was as disturbing as the first time and I was both relieved but also a bit sad to reach the final page. As I already said in a previous review of one of the single stories, reading this book will provide no pleasure at all, but still I cannot recommend it enough.
