Inhaltsangabe zu „Grief is the Thing with Feathers“ von Max Porter

Tedious, weird, unclear - a verse-written book with magical elements that didn't connect to me AT ALL.

— Janinasmind

I AM SO TORN ABOUT THIS. I wanted to LOVE this so so bad. SADLY I DIDN'T. I adored the over-all concept of the book because A CROW HELPING A FAMILY MOVE ON FROM THEIR GRIEF?? I'm so down for that. The title captured me because it's not only inspired by the Emily Dickinson poem 'Hope is the thing with feathers' but also really prepares you for what's in store for this little verse-written book: a story full of magic, grief, sadness and ultimately moving on. So what went wrong?? Well, let's start with the fact THAT I DIDN'T CONNECT TO ANY OF THE CHARACTERS OR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE STORY ITSELF. It was such a washout. Also, the crow-'chapters' confused the HELL out of me. I mean, what the hell was that, it was just random words-describing-sounds-a-bird-could-make paired with other words strung together to make sense but didn't. Maybe there is a deeper meaning to all of this. There is a huge possibility that there IS a deeper meaning but I just did not see it one bit. There were four moments where I THOUGHT that this book could maybe somehow hook me if it would just keep going that way but that didn't happen. Sadly. "I lied about how you died, I whispered to Mum." "I would do the same, she whispered back. " I thought the intention and the thought behind the whole thing was GREAT and could have been AWESOME and HEARTWRENCHING but instead it did nothing for me. I'm so sorry, book. PS: I also thought the 'funny' moments weren't funny AT ALL. Fart noises and imitating someone having sex??? Not my kind of style but go ahead, guys, judge for yourselves.
