I'm not sure yet if I would like to do an au pair year. I took a break from university, because I was feeling overwhelmed. Now I'm at a point where I have to decide to finish my master degree or do something else. And some part of me is interested in maybe doing an au pair year. But another part of me is not sure if that would be the best for me. Let alone if I would be able to do it, because I read in some guidelines of some agency, that you cannot take part if you had a mental illness in the last three years.... and I took a break because of depression an anxiety and have started therapy, so it definitly is in the records. So yeah, I don't know yet if this is for me. But I'll maybe I decide in the next few days to join you for the leserunde.

@JustMe

Hey! it would be lovely if you joined the reading challenge as we will go through every chapter and there are quite a few points that you touched that are part of the book.
As for your decision and your background in mental health- only you and your doctor can decide whats best for you in that sense. it also depends on which country you want to be an au pair in.

Week 2: Chapter 3: What is your tip for settling in? Do you have a story about "communication gone right or wrong"?
@Shellysbookshelf

Definitely meeting lots of people in the beginning is a very good way to start off well. the sooner you make friends the better ;)

I'd also say that makinf friends is very important. Maybe you also should search for a hobby or sports team you could join.

Week 2: Chapter 4: What is your nr 1 recipe? Your nr 1 activity for children?

My nr 1 recipe for children is selfmade pizza or spaghetti, maybe not the healthiest food, but the kids usually like it and are happy.

My nr 1 activity is just playing outside on a playground or something like this.

Hobbies/ sports clubs are good too but not always possible. But you can free your head from stress and everything if you have the chance to :)

Week 3: Chapter 5: How do you deal with loneliness? What would be a reason for you to leave your host family?

I think dealing with loneliness is a hard topic. But skyping much (but not too much so that you still go out with friends) is good and going out, exploring stuff, distracting yourself, talk to friends in your host country.

Leaving the familiy is also a hard topic, i think. Some people are more sensitive towards things and other people care less. I think if you really and truly try and don't get along with either the parents or the kid(s) and you know that you canot be happy if it is like that but you also know that it won't get very different, it is a reason to leave. Or right in the beginning if they lied to you about important things. I once heard from someone that he only had a room that was separated from the living room with a curtain. So he didn't have a real room and they told him they didn't want him to spend his freetime at home because he is an employee and they would not include him to the family as a failiy memeber because he is an employee. Such things, in my opinion, are also reasons to leave your family. Because if they don't get the point of aupairs I would not bother staying.

Week 3: Chapter 6: What personal development books have you read that you would recommend? Do you know what you will do after your au pair year?

I haven't read personal development books.
As I'm gonna do my AuPair year next year, I don't know yet what I will do afterwards. I'd love to travel to other places and do AuPair/Work and Travel though if it wasn't for my boyfriend. But time will show
