Rezension zu "A Monster Like Me (Heart of Darkness Book 2)" von Pamela Sparkman
Oh, so beautifully heartbreaking. I loved being given the chance to accompany Zeph on the stony path of redemption. Naturally, there were many, many setbacks, but they made the tiny steps forward so much more worth it. He is one of the most complex characters I have come across so far. I simply could not not feel every single emotion with him. He is such a troubled man and we get to know why and it made me sad and angry at the same time.
Zeph really has some serious issues and I liked the sensible way they are dealt with in this book by not going too much into detail but still not using any euphemisms. These atrocious things happened and they happen to far too many people.
Loved ones are so very important. We can see it in this story as well. Zeph's relationship to Elin and Arwyn warmed my heart. It develops into something deep over time which made me very happy for him. After all the torture he had to suffer Zeph deserved some happiness even though he has a hard time accepting it with all this guilt he is carrying around.
Zeph, Elin and Arwyn are not the only characters I adored, of course. The side characters have a lot to offer, too. Many of them we already know from book 1. I have been able to get to know them better, some even presented themselves in a whole new light, some others made me quite suspicious. A few new characters are introduced as well. Favian is my absolute favourite, he is soo adorable.
There is also danger from the outside intruding into their lives at the monastery which adds some spice to the story.
It feels like this is the final installment of the The Heart of Darkness Series. I certainly am very happy with how things ended. If by any chance there is coming out a sequel, I will be one of the first to read it. I just love the characters and would not mind reading more about them. I can recommend this book to anyone interested in evil turns good, intense emotions and lovable characters.
