Rezension zu Liars, Inc. von Paula Stokes

Not worth it, sorry.

von Rukhi vor 9 Jahren

Kurzmeinung: Vorhersehbares Ende, aufgeputschter Plot. Es passiert fast zu viel, und zu viele "Zufälle", dadurch wirkt es sehr konstruiert/unrealistisch.

„You ever feel like you don’t know anyone?“

I rarely say „stay away from this“, I usually find the good bits in the story and encourage you to try it yourself even if it wasn’t for me. But „Liars Inc.“, in my opinion, is just not worth it. Let’s start with the word „boring“. I can’t even explain how, but somehow a plot with disappearances, murder, a house burning down, an FBI man hunt and political plot twists can bore you for 362 pages. I could just not get invested in any of it.

“Preston wouldn’t make it an hour without his phone. How could it end up in my trunk?” With blood on it. “And who the hell told the cops Pres and I were arguing?”

I mostly blame it on the characters, because most of them were idiots, and it just got worse while the story was progressing. Most of their actions didn’t make sense. Characters can have good reasons to run and lie to the FBI even though they are innocent. In „Liars Inc.“ they don’t, not really.

„And just like that, my birthday went from a sleeping dream to a waking nightmare. I barely remember brandishing the gun, running from the feds, leaping from the cliff into the frigid water below.“

Why did I keep reading until the very end of it? I always hope for books to get better, for characters to develop and get smarter. And I just really wanted to know how this misery wraps up. Let me tell you, it’s not worth it.

The only good thing I can say about this book, is that the writing style was okay. It kept me engaged, even though I didn’t care about the plot or the characters at all. And the underlying crime/mystery wasn’t too bad an idea, it was just executed poorly.

So that’s where the two star rating is coming from. I just wanted to say: it’s not worth it. Sorry Paula Stokes.
