I guess everybody knows more or less about Jesus, at least the birth in Bethlehem, the death on the cross are known-facts. So, how do you take that story and turn it into a book that still captures the reader? You add an element, that is not mentioned in the bible and add it to the mix: Jesus twin brother Christ! As stupid and crazy this might seem, it gives the old story a new twist and leaves you with a lot of new questions. By changing one element, the whole story becomes something entirely different, leading the reader to a rather unexpected story that gives hints, which are never solved, and will occupy his/her mind for a while after.I believed myself to be pretty well informed when it comes to the life of Jesus (thank eight years of Catholic school for that one...) but while reading the book I realized how many of the stories I had forgotten or gotten wrong. It shows Jesus more like a modern Che Guevara type of figure with flaws and doubts, making him more real than the re-tellings of the Bible.I stumbled across Mr. Pullmann just recently and LOVED the Northern Lights Triology and also enjoyed his uniquely un-fussy style of prose while telling a story that has been told many times before. I can absolutely recommend this book to every reader with an open mind.
