Cute, flirt-heavy slow-burn romance. Some communication issues between MCs make it a bit of a drag, but nice world and low on angst.

A Being(s) in Love Story

Arthur MacArthur needs a job, and not just for the money. Before he dropped out of school to support his younger sister, he loved being a research assistant at the university. But working for a dragon, one of the rarest and least understood magical beings, has unforeseen complications. While Arthur may be the only applicant who isn't afraid of Philbert Jones in his dragon form, the instant attraction he feels for his new employer is beyond disconcerting.

Bertie is a brilliant historian, but he can't find his own notes without help-his house is a hoard of books and antiques, hence the need for an assistant. Setting the mess to rights is a dream come true for Arthur, who once aspired to be an archivist. But making sense of Bertie's interest in him is another matter. After all, dragons collect treasure, and Arthur is anything but extraordinary.

Kurzmeinung: Cute, flirt-heavy slow-burn romance. Some communication issues between MCs make it a bit of a drag, but nice world and low on angst.
    Flirty slow burn romance

Arthur is a poor college drop out, who's trying to take care of his sister, who's a recovering alcoholic. He finds a job as an assistant to the dragon and author Bertie, organizing his books, cleaning the house, helping him with research.
Arthur is immediately drawn to the guy, and it doesn't help that Bertie apparently can help but flirty outrageously with poor Arthur. But he obviously can't mean anything with that, because Arthur is as plain as they come and dragons like beautiful things, after all.

So, this is a really slow burner. They need about 80% till something happens. It's made interesting by the fact that Bertie flirts quite heavily with Arthur from day one. So Arthur obviously doesn't take it seriously. But it's pretty fun for a good while how Bertie keeps making Arthur all flustered. And I liked Arthur a lot. He seems a bit meek at times, but a liked how protective he got of Bertie, and how he's not afraid to read him the riot act when he does something Arthur objects to.

But actually, their lack of communication got a bit annoying after a while. Arthur tends to assume Bertie can just smell what he's feeling or thinking most of the time, which is kinda weird. And Bertie doesn't really explain much about how Dragons work or what he's feeling for Arthur either. It always seems he's waiting for Arthur to make the first move.
Also, there are often situations where they start explicitly stating things I thought where already common knowledge as of at least one chapter ago.
And in the end, after I thought all is said and clear, Arthur has a silly meltdown for no apparent reason.

So, the romance was pretty cute and the worldbuiling was interesting. I liked the take on dragons, even though it didn't really feel all that new (Seemed quite similar to how dragons are portrait in Fae out of water ). But seriously, the communication issues made if drag a bit and where a bit embarrassing at times.
I'll say 3.5 stars and round it up for pretty hot sexy times. ;)
