Interview mit Rachel Hawthorne

Interview von LovelyBooks mit Rachel Hawthorne, Mai 2011

1) Since when did you write your own stories and how did it come your first book was published?

I began writing in 1990. My first book written as Rachel Hawthorne was published in 2000.

2) Which author inspires you most of all?

LaVyrle Spencer was the author who first inspired me to write romance. For teen romance, I have to admit that I’m a huge Richelle Mead fan. I love the Vampire Academy series.

3) Where do you get the inspiration for your books?

Some of the inspiration comes from real life. I love baseball, hence The Boyfriend League. I love going to amusement parks and that spawned, Thrill Ride. During college, I spent summers working at a campground and that was the basis for Island Girls (And Boys).

4) How do you get in contact with your readers?

My readers can usually find my contact information at my website www.rachelhawthorne.net.

5) When and what do you read yourself?

I mostly read romance. Historical romance and teen romances are my favorite.

6) How did it feel do hold your own book in your hands for the first time?

It felt a little overwhelming. I don’t think it really hit me until that moment that people would be reading my stories, my thoughts.

7) Do you have any advice for other writers?

Write what you love to read.

8) Who is your favorite character in your books so far and why?

My favorite character is always the one that I’m writing at the time—if he or she wasn’t my favorite, what would motivate me to write about them?

9) What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

How different stories can touch readers differently. It’s interesting to know that each of my books has been at least one person’s favorite. I never know how characters will speak to the readers, will connect with them.

10) Are you already writing another novel and can you tell us, what it will be about?

I am working on another novel for teens. It will be out in May 2012. I’ll soon be talking about it on my website, www.rachelhawthorne.net. That’s all I can say for now. ;-)
