Interview von LovelyBooks mit Rachel Hawthorne, Mai 2011
I began writing in 1990. My first book written as Rachel Hawthorne was published in 2000.
LaVyrle Spencer was the author who first inspired me to write romance. For teen romance, I have to admit that I’m a huge Richelle Mead fan. I love the Vampire Academy series.
Some of the inspiration comes from real life. I love baseball, hence The Boyfriend League. I love going to amusement parks and that spawned, Thrill Ride. During college, I spent summers working at a campground and that was the basis for Island Girls (And Boys).
My readers can usually find my contact information at my website www.rachelhawthorne.net.
I mostly read romance. Historical romance and teen romances are my favorite.
It felt a little overwhelming. I don’t think it really hit me until that moment that people would be reading my stories, my thoughts.
Write what you love to read.
My favorite character is always the one that I’m writing at the time—if he or she wasn’t my favorite, what would motivate me to write about them?
How different stories can touch readers differently. It’s interesting to know that each of my books has been at least one person’s favorite. I never know how characters will speak to the readers, will connect with them.
I am working on another novel for teens. It will be out in May 2012. I’ll soon be talking about it on my website, www.rachelhawthorne.net. That’s all I can say for now. ;-)
