Rezension zu "Bad Dogs (Dirty Strays Book 1) (English Edition)" von Riley Nash
🎧Audiobook Review🎧
Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️️
Performance: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️(⭐️)️
The Riley Nash stories I've read so far have been very emotional and it's the same here. Roman is a traumatized boy who continues to be taken advantage of, even abused, by his not very nice brother. Just so Roman can have a roof over his head. I think you should notice the trigger warning at the beginning.
Then there's Scout and his friends, who grow up in abject poverty and dream of a better life. But to do that you need money and so Scout gets the idea to make videos in which he is the Dom and now he is looking for a sub. He happens to meet the tall, quiet boy Roman.
What I really liked was Scout's handling of the fact that Roman mostly doesn't talk. He took it in stride and didn't push him to speak. On the contrary, he and his friends Dallas and Beck were really sweet and even learned sign language.
Scout wants to be a Dom and I can understand the reasons why Roman wants to drop. But somehow, while listening, I felt like their BDSM relationship didn't really work. Sure, you can make mistakes when you start your career as a Dom, but this wasn't it. Maybe it was because Roman was so traumatized.
I also unfortunately had trouble connecting with the protagonists and can't even put my finger on exactly what it was.
This is no ordinary love story and at first it takes time for the plot to pick up and for me to get into the story. But from the middle of the book on, more happens and it gets exciting.
I didn't know the two narrators Devon Ryder and Bryant Walker before, but I will remember them. They both have very pleasant voices, emphasize in the right places and brought the story to life. I enjoyed the performance of both of them.
This book is an interesting start to a series and I am already looking forward to Beck and Dallas' stories.
