Inhaltsangabe zu „Life's Little Ironies“ von Thomas Hardy

• Two of Thomas Hardy's best-selling books are bound together in this Kindle edition: Life’s Little Ironies (short stories) & Desperate Remedies (a novel) Life’s Little Ironies Hardy coined the phrase “life's little ironies'” and puts it to excellent use in this collection of stories, all moving tales in their own right dealing with tragedy, humour and the metaphysical. All of the tales are linked by the common theme or irony. Desperate Remedies Cytherea Graye, is forced by poverty to accept a role as maid to Miss Aldclyffe, an eccentric lady her father once loved. Cytherea herself is in love with Edward Springrove, an architect who is already engaged to a woman he does not love. Desperate times call for desperate remedies and Cytherea accepts the hand of Aeneas Manston, Miss Adclyffe's illegitimate son, About The Author Thomas Hardy 1840 –1928) was an English novelist and poet in the tradition of George Eliot. He was influenced by Romanticism, especially William Wordsworth. Charles Dickens was an important influence and, like Dickens, was highly critical of much in Victorian society. Hardy’s work, including Tess of d’Urbervilles and his last published novel Jude The Obscure are highly acclaimed. (Quelle:'E-Buch Text/22.07.2014')
