Hannibal is back. "The silence of the lambs" is probably the best know story about the cannibal Hannibal Lecter and introduced one of the most associated persons with him, Clarice Starling. Hannibal the Cannibal is no longer out there killing. He is in preventive detention and as charming as ever. When a new serial killer is keeping the FBI on the go, young Clarice Starling is assigned to talk Lecter into helping identifying the killer and rescuing a innocent victims life. Or many. This is the start of a relationship between two people that could not be more diverse. At least, so it seems. And one does not simlpy get something from Lecter. Starling has to pay for information with private ones. Information about her own life and childhood that Lecter seems to enjoy like he did his victims. Hannibal Lecter is a name as well known as Sherlock Holmes or Harry Potter. Hannibal the Cannibal. He is one of literature's worst nightmares. And not only because it takes author Thomas Harris years to write a new book. (The first one, "Red Dragon" came out in 1981, followed by Silence of the lambs in 1988, whole 7 years later and the third book "Hannibal" published another 11 years afterwards) Lecter is repulsive and attractive at the same time. You don't want to trust him, but he is manipulative like no other and knows how to use his tongue. Harris takes his time writing, but the time is good invested. The complexity of the story, the characters and Lecter is extraordinary. I give full 5 of 5 stars for this book. It is a delight to read.
