"Hannibal" is the 3rd book in Thomas Harris' Hannibal Lecter series and my favourite one as well. Story:Seven years have passed since Dr Hannibal Lecter escaped from custody, seven years since FBI Special Agent Clarice Starling interviewed him in a maximum security hospital for the criminally insane. The doctor is still at large, but Starling has never forgotten her encounters with Dr Lecter, and the metallic rasp of his seldom-used voice still sounds in her dreams... Harris has a thing for the number 7, hasn't he? I think I don't need to explain who Hannibal Lecter is. For me, he is one of the most interesting characters in the literary world (I just forget  the disappointing 4th book was ever written).  His relationship to Clarice Starling has been a main part of "The silence of the lambs" and is continued throughout this book. Is this a couple people ship? I'm not sure, but there has always been some kind of connection between the two of them. They're similar in some ways. Lecter has escaped from custody years ago and now lives in Florence, Italy. I love that italian setting and the atmosphere. I'd like to see the city sometime.  But how the hell could this normal police officer find him? He survived 7 years without being recognized, why was he the one to find out about his true identity? I also liked the cruel character of Mason Verger. His pigs and his actions and thoughts, he is, in some ways, more insane than Hannibal himself, because he lacks some of Lecter's competenz and appearance. The book has some wordy passages and some actions are really unrealistic, but I enjoyed the whole book. And the ending. What can I say about that. I always thought it would end like this somehow, but I was nevertheless slightly scared and confused. I'd love for Harris to write another book about Hannibal, but I fear it would be a complete disappointment. "Hannibal Rising" was really not good and maybe it would be better, if the story of Hannibal and Clarice ends with this one.

Noch nie war Hannibal so faszinierend wie in diesem Roman. Man bekommteinen tieferen Einblick in Lecters Gedankenwelt. Zudem wird wiedereinmaldie Beziehung von Starling und ihm vertieft. Ein Muß für jeden Fan vonHannibal dem Kannibalen.
