I guess if Tony Stark & Loki and Bruce Banner & Magneto each had a kid together and those kids would meet each other, that´d happen:

- they would be far too clever for their own good
- they would be far too good looking
- they would be far too bored with the world
- they would be far too caught up in their own heads.

The outcome of a union of this kind can be expected to be disastrous. Which, basically, is what Vicious is about.

Vicious can´t be compared to anything, especially not [book:A Darker Shade of Magic|22055262]. If you read Shades of Magic first and think you´re in for another magical ride, you´ll end up quite confused.
Vicious is one of those novels that leave you absolutely clueless about what to think. In the end I sat there staring into nothing, pondering the story and trying to erase the WTF expression from my face.

I haven´t read a book carried by not one, but two antagonists yet. Now that I have, I´m pretty sure it´s awesome. Schwab´s writing is something else for sure. I even heard the creepy background music every so often.
Albite it was slow and dragging at times, the story spun its own magical thread.

What is most compelling about it, you may ask considering it isn´t the stereotype superhero stuff. Why giving it a shot, knowing there´s no good guy in this game? The answer is that the lack of real heroes is THE reason to clutch the book tightly. It´ll leave you torn up and shaking. Rarely before I felt this perplexed. Should I feel bad for liking them? Should I feel good for hating them? Basically, both of them are total idiots. I switched ships more of the than John Tucker beds, because there simply is no wrong and right in this book.

The cat and mouse game between Eli and Victor is thrilling, captivating and compelling, even though all I really wanted to was to cover my eyes. It really is well done. A masterpiece of deception and psychological terror with flashbacks into a past that shows just how dangerous curiosity and self confidence can be.

Wo while you´re sitting there, debatting whether to like Victor or Eli, whether to feels sorry for them or despise them, the book will pull you in and hold you tight, showing you a creepy world of to intelligent for their own good and revenge is best served cold.

The whole book is a mash up of emotional flashbacks, spooky coincidences, convenient set-ups and two guys who came together in an bombastic ending that leaves even more reason for vengeance. Be prepared. I guess, the second installment won´t go easy on us.
