7. Schuljahr, Stufe 2 - Dead Man's Island

John Escott
Geheftet
Erschienen bei Cornelsen Verlag, 01.09.2000
ISBN 9783464123003
Genre: Sachbücher

Rezension:

"...but i know there is dead man living there."

Dead Man’s Island is written by John Escott, he writes books for people who start reading in English. I've read this with a boy whom I tutor in english.

The story is easy to read and understand, plus it's really short with lots of pictures. There is nothing to exciting and it is kinda predictable since the book title gives everything away.

But it is a good story for teens who are looking to improve their reading skills, but do not want to start with long books.

Burn (The Breathless Trilogy Book 3)

Maya Banks
E-Buch Text: 365 Seiten
Erschienen bei Berkley, 06.08.2013
ISBN 9781101620403
Genre: Sonstiges

Rezension:

"I don't deserve your love or your shine, but I want it because with you I can feel the sun. I don't want to go back to those shadows."

I enjoyed the third book in the Breathless SeriesBurn is the last book in the Breathless Trilogy by Maya Banks and in my opinion the best book of the series. Burn is sensual and erotically sexy without being over the top or hardcore.

I liked Ash and Josie's story. It wasn't very angsty, and they fell into a relationship easily. Of course, there is some conflict, but it doesn't season the entire relationship. Ash is 100% my favorite of the three men! I'm taking it a step further, I will say that this book is my favorite of the three as well.

I learned early on that I really had no idea who Ash really was. The Ash I thought I knew was not the real Ash. Getting inside his head made it much easier to understand him and I saw a different side of him that others, including Jace and Gabe, never saw. He actually is much more Alpha male than either of the two. He is very blunt, demanding, controlling, protective and incredibly romantic. I really loved both Ash and Josie, separately and together. I loved how Ash needed to always touch Josie and how Josie gave herself over to his demanding ways so easily. I loved how honest they were with one another and how they really did communicate immediately. They just worked together. There was no stupidity on either of their parts, no annoying fights or whining. Their relationship was the kind I wanted to keep reading about.

Burn is my favorite of the three and Ash McIntrye is the biggest reason why. This final book in the series did such a great job in tying things from the first two books in with this story and closing up loose ends.

Memoirs of an imaginary friend

Matthew Green
Flexibler Einband: 453 Seiten
Erschienen bei Sphere, 14.02.2012
ISBN 9780751547870
Genre: Romane

Rezension:

“You have to be the bravest person in the world to go out every day, being yourself when no one likes who you are.”

Many kids have imaginary friends, who last for varying periods of time, disappearing somewhere along the way as their creators grow up. What if they are not imaginary, but inhabit a strange twilight world where they can be seen only by one another, and the children who created them? The author builds his tale on this intriguing premise, and creates a fantasy world which is unique.

In Budo's world, imaginary friends are built the way their creators imagined them to be: Budo is luckier than most, because he is of normal size, can talk, and can pass through closed doors and windows. Max, an autistic child, cannot interact properly with the world. All his suppressed creativity has gone into the production of Budo, and it is Budo who sustains him through difficult situations. And it is through Budo's eyes we come to know the world of Max.

There seemed to be a lot of potential in a set up like that.
What the book ends up doing with this premise is rather disappointing though, and the ending was, at least for me, a predictable, emotional cliché. Some aspects of the plot were a little frustrating, as it takes Budo a long time to think of things that, as a reader, I came up with instantly.

However, I felt that the writing was strong and I really liked the way that Max is portrayed. He can be annoying and frustrating, and the book never sugarcoats that. However, he is also lovable and well-loved by his parents, his teachers, and Budo himself. An enjoyable read if you are not having any great expectations, in fact, I think I liked the premise of this book more than the story itself.

This is a good book with a promising start and a touching ending, I just expected more, maybe just something different, of its whole.

Shopaholic & Baby

Sophie Kinsella
Flexibler Einband: 358 Seiten
Erschienen bei Random House Inc, 26.12.2007
ISBN 0385338716
Genre: Romane

Rezension:

“In the end, you have to choose whether or not to trust someone.”

Becky Brandon is pregnant! She couldn't be more overjoyed-especially since discovering that shopping cures morning sickness. Everything has got to be perfect for her baby: from the designer nursery . . . to the latest, coolest pram . . . to the celebrity, must-have obstetrician.
But when the celebrity obstetrician turns out to be her husband Luke's glamorous, intellectual ex-girlfriend, Becky's perfect world starts to crumble. She's shopping for two . . . but are there three in her marriage?

There is something wonderful about being able to pick up any book in the Shopaholic series and laugh out loud, forgetting about any other worries and escaping for a few hours. Sure some would say that chick-lit novels are a fluffy alternative to 'real' books and I guess they are, but that doesn't mean you can't have fun reading them. And that's what the Shopaholic series is - fun.

Shopaholic & Baby is another wonderfully light hearted installment in the Shopaholic series and, while it won't win a Pulitzer Prize, it's well worth the read for anyone looking for a good laugh.

An engaging story, with quirky and entertaining characters, from her husband Luke, her sister, her parents and her numerous friends.

It's a Wonderful Tangled Christmas Carol (The Tangled Series)

Emma Chase
E-Buch Text: 88 Seiten
Erschienen bei Pocket Star, 30.11.2015
ISBN 9781501123016
Genre: Sonstiges

Rezension:

"Life is a memory. Sure, we enjoy the moments as they come, but for many, time goes by too fast to truly appreciate those moments as they happen. It’s only later, when we remember them, that they become precious to us. A life well lived is one where the good memories outweigh the bad."

I know it's July but I was in the mood for Drew. I just cannot get enough of him.

I am a huge fan of the Tangled series. The reason for this is that Drew Evans is one of the funniest book boyfriends out there. It’s the perfect kind of humor. Not over the top, just straight laugh out loud funny. Drew is pretty great in all aspects of life, but when it comes to Christmas, he’s a bit of a Grinch. And he’s in the doghouse with his wife when he announces he’s working Christmas Eve instead of doing the family thing with Kate and their son, James.

This is a cute Christmas story about how Drew needs a bit of a pinch every now and then to make him sit up and take notice of what's happening and to just ensure he's on the right path.

And as a bonus Emma Chase has also included the scene " Indecent Proposal" that takes place between the 2nd and 4th book. Enjoy! I know I really did. And even though I know it's greedy...I want more.

The Rosie Project

Graeme Simsion
Buch: 320 Seiten
Erschienen bei Penguin UK, 02.01.2014
ISBN 9781405915335
Genre: Romane

Rezension:

"I asked you here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible."

Don Tillman is a brilliant scientist, but a helpless socialist. He is a 39 y/o socially inept scientist who lives his life based on strict rules. He never believed that love, romance and marriage was for him. But when a friend comments on his likeliness of being an excellent husband, he rethinks his possibilities.

Rosie is beautiful, smart and nowhere close to what Don sees as a perfect life partner. She's an utterly likeable female lead who's going to bring the unexpected in Don's life, shatter his (numerous) believes and stereotypes. Smart, strong-minded, sarcastic, sure of her value as a person, the madness she personifies stirs up the winds of freedom in Don's life.

The Rosie Project is less of a romance and more of a tale of one mans journey to find love and discover some truths about himself. This wasn't a traditional romance novel, but I enjoyed the romantic aspect of this story quite a bit. There was also a fun and interesting journey with Don and Rosie gathering dozens of samples of DNA to determine who might be Rosie's biological father. It made me laugh quite a few times! This story had a lot of fun twists and turns, and a few predictable parts. I thoroughly enjoyed the journey these two took that ultimately had them discovering more about themselves and what is truly important.

Written with a one of a kind voice, you experience all of Don's ups and downs as he over-analyses, fears and then embraces change and eventually learns how to love. I liked it.

Be with Me

J. Lynn , Jennifer L. Armentrout
Flexibler Einband: 376 Seiten
Erschienen bei WILLIAM MORROW, 04.02.2014
ISBN 9780062294784
Genre: Erotische Literatur

Rezension:

"You know, I’ve tried staying away from you. I’ve tried ignoring how I feel about you, which isn’t how I should feel. But it’s like fighting a losing battle. And I don’t want to fight it anymore. I don’t want to ignore this."

Be with Me is the story of Teresa (Tess) and Jase. Jase is Cam’s best friend and Tess is Cam’s little sister. You can see where this is going, right? Although Jase and Tess have had feelings for one another since that shared kiss over a year ago, Jase has stayed away. Now that Tess is on the same college campus as Jase, it is so much harder for him to keep his distance. He wants Tess, it’s obvious, but he can’t have her. For so many reasons, he feels they can’t be together. He can’t have Tess, but what he doesn’t realize is that he already does. No one compares to Jase for her.

For some reason, I just didn’t get into it as much as I wanted too. The beginning half was a bit slow for me. It was very well written, and still a great story, it just didn’t hit my five star buttons. Still, I would recommend it to New Adult fans.

I liked it but didn't love it.

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas

John Boyne
Flexibler Einband: 215 Seiten
Erschienen bei Random House Children's Books, 29.04.2010
ISBN 9781849920438
Genre: Jugendbuch

Rezension:

“What exactly was the difference? he wondered to himself. And who decided which people wore the striped pyjamas and which people wore the uniforms?”

Bruno is 9 and lives in Berlin in 1943 with his parents and 12 year old sister. They are wealthy and his father is an important soldier who is promoted to be the Commandant at Auschwitz. The trick of the story is that Bruno doesn't realize the horror of what goes on behind the barbed wire, where everyone wears striped pyjamas, even when he befriends a boy of the same age at a corner of the camp.

There are so many historical inaccuracies and ludicrous details in this totally implausible story of Boyne's. Bruno's ignorance of basics, impossible when he would have been in the Hitler Youth and the Nazi education system. This travesty of the Holocaust is called a 'fable' as if with all its faults, it has special claim on some gravitas, thus giving Boyne justification for this lame expose of racism.

The ending served no purpose. It didn't make the father see what was wrong, it didn't make the guards question what they were doing, it didn't make the Jews who died in the camp any less tragic, what was the ending's purpose? My guess is just shock value. This book was not really about the Holocaust, it really was not about the relationship between a German boy and a Jewish boy during the Holocaust--it was a book that was just built up to that second to last chapter with the only purpose of making readers sad and angry and upset.

The Claiming: A Submissive Novella 7.5 (The Submissive Series)

Tara Sue Me
E-Buch Text: 114 Seiten
Erschienen bei Headline Eternal, 20.09.2016
ISBN 9781472242679
Genre: Sonstiges

Rezension:

"She could stay in his arms forever, there was nowhere else she'd rather be."

In The Claiming readers are thrown into a whirlwind where sexual fantasies, kink, and romance are in full effect as Cole and Sasha claim and proclaim their love and devotion to one another.

Cole and Sasha have been together for a little while now but sometimes insecurities pop up and Cole's decided he needs to show Sasha once and for all how very much she means to him. And he goes about it in an elaborate way; a house party at his childhood home in the UK complete with one amazing surprise and a number of their closest friends.

This story may be a quick read but it is full of emotion, hot steamy scenes and the warmth of family and friendship.

Awakening You: Volume 3 (Unraveling You)

Jessica Sorensen
Flexibler Einband: 262 Seiten
Erschienen bei CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, 21.03.2015
ISBN 9781507680674
Genre: Sonstiges

Rezension:

"I'm never, never going to be free until I die, or they capture me. I'm not sure which ending is worse."

Awakening You is the third book in Jessica Sorensen’s series Unraveling You and picks right up where the second book ends.

Lyric is still as sweet as ever and so patient with Ayden, who is trying to deal with his past, his kidnapped sister, and trying to open up more with Lyric. Intimacy is something he struggles with, but he's learning to love and conquering his issues and it was nice to see some progress there.

This story did wane a bit because aside from the couple getting closer, not too much happens. We are still no closer to knowing who has his sister, and what they want with Ayden and that is awfully frustrating. This was just a filler book. Absolutely no progress from the previous book except towards last few pages. The story doesn't progress at all, we still have so many questions and not even the beginning of an answer.

I'm going to be honest and say that I'm a tad bit annoyed with the fact that nothing much really happened in this book.

Tortilla Flat

John Steinbeck , Elisabeth Rotten
Flexibler Einband: 176 Seiten
Erschienen bei dtv Verlagsgesellschaft, 01.07.1987
ISBN 9783423107648
Genre: Romane

Rezension:

"Things that happen are of no importance. But from everything that happens, there is a lesson to be learned."

My Life Next Door

Huntley Fitzpatrick
Fester Einband: 304 Seiten
Erschienen bei Penguin Group USA, 14.06.2012
ISBN 9780803736993
Genre: Jugendbuch

Rezension:

"I don't know. I didn't have that choice. But I know what's happening now. And I'm choosing to stay with you."

What an enjoyable young adult story! Samantha is the daughter of the Connecticut's Senator and has lived next door to the large Garrett family for many years. She watches them but never engages until the summer before her senior year when she meets Jase Garrett and his seven siblings. Jase’s younger brother George is one of the most memorable characters I ever had the pleasure to read about, and I adored him, as I did the entire Garrett brood.

I really like stories like this, that get you through every stage of a young relationship; that make you hold your breath for the romantic moments, for the first kiss; that make you smile at all the silliness and cuteness of the couple; that make you ache for them when they are in trouble and fall apart; that make you love them more when they get back together, much stronger as a couple, much more in love, knowing themselves better, accepting each other with the good and the bad, feeling their love grow with every page, with every word.

This was exactly what I needed to read. It was just lovely. I loved the characters, I loved the plot and I can't wait to pick up the next books in this series. So adorable, I really enjoyed.

Fever (The Breathless Trilogy Book 2)

Maya Banks
E-Buch Text: 418 Seiten
Erschienen bei Berkley, 02.04.2013
ISBN 9781101620380
Genre: Sonstiges

Rezension:

"Don’t let me go Jace. I’m lost without you."

Fever is the second installment of her Breathless series which centers around the lives of three beautiful, sexy as sin men; Jace Crestwell, Ash McIntyre, and Gabe Hamilton. They’ve been best friends and very successful business partners for many years, making their relationship more like family. Fever is Jace's story.

Bethany is a young girl, in her twenties, living on the streets. She doesn't have a home. She hasn't had a home in over four years.

Jace sees Bethany at Gabe and Mia's engagement party and immediately is intrigued by her. Since Ash and him generally share everything, it's just crazy to him that he doesn't want to share Bethany. He wants Bethany to himself.

I really liked Jace. He did a good job of balancing his control and dominance with taking care of Bethany and letting her be her own person. And I thought Bethany did a good job of fitting into her new life with him.

I liked the pacing of this book and have to say that although it didn't wow me, Maya Banks writes romance extremely well. It was easy to be caught up in it and I found myself finishing it faster because of that.

Fever is a Cinderella type fairy tale with an erotic twist!

I'm looking forward to finishing off the trilogy with Ash's story up next.

4 Stars.

Beauty from Love: Volume 3 (The Beauty Series)

Georgia Cates
Flexibler Einband: 384 Seiten
Erschienen bei CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, 29.01.2014

Genre: Sonstiges

Rezension:

"You were once my beauty from pain, before you became my beauty from surrender. Now you've adapted into something different once again."
"And what is that?"
"My beauty from love... Forever."

It’s the final book to Jack and Laurelyn’s story!

Beauty from Love picks up right after Beauty from Surrender with Jack Henry and Laurelyn on their honeymoon. Jack's ready to start a family, but Laurelyn's hesitant because she wants to spend some time with her new husband. Laurelyn decides to surprises him on his birthday and let him know she's ready. They don't waste any time. The first half of the book is full of steamy scenes....almost too many if that's possible.

Then starts all the unnecessary drama. Women from Jack Henry's past, one after the other, keep popping up trying to ruin their relationship and win Jack's heart. Laurelyn gets jealous, Jack Henry is paranoid she will leave, then they make up. It happens a few times. Not to mention Laurelyn has a complicated pregnancy, her mom is horrible, and the assault charges against Blake are dropped. I love this series, but this one was just over the top.

I really wanted to give this book more stars but I just couldn't get over some things. I felt like this book was "trying" too hard. There were a lot of little things that added up to be big things that I disliked. I was so disappointed because I felt like this had such great potential to be a great way to end this series. It just fell short for me.

It's like every conceivable bad situation was thrown into this book. It got to the point I felt like I needed a neck brace from the whiplash I got with all the back and fourth. Very disappointed with this last installment of the series.

Beauty from Surrender (Beauty Series #2): Volume 2

Georgia Cates
Flexibler Einband: 390 Seiten
Erschienen bei CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, 28.05.2013
ISBN 9781489591098
Genre: Sonstiges

Rezension:

"It was a mistake to not tell you how I felt. It's haunted me since the day I came home and found you gone. You'll never know how sorry I am for letting you slip through my fingers. But it won't happen again because I'm never letting you go. Ever."

Beauty from Surrender takes place right where Beauty from Pain left off. Separated by several thousand miles and the Pacific Ocean. Laurelyn has returned to America and Jack has absolutely no idea how to find her. Jack hires a private detective to track Laurelyn down. She has attempted to move on with her life despite her incredible sense of loss after walking away from Jack and Australia.

Its been months and Jack Henry has followed lead after lead trying to find Laurelyn. So when Jack finally reaches her and they find each other again, can she choose between her future in music and her future with the man she fell in love?

Passionate and exciting this is a nice conclusion to Jack and Laurelyn's story about love and surrender. Extremely hot, this couple is making the pages sizzle with their chemistry and your heart sigh with their funny banter.

I like this book and though it might not be as amazing as the first book in the series, it is still really great! There are still a few questions left unanswered for me… mainly where certain characters went. I hope this gets resolved in the third book.

All in all, there were parts of Beauty From Surrender that I truly enjoyed but I really did love the first book so much more.

Genre: Sonstiges

Rezension:

"A moment might be a thousand different things."

I really did not like this book- the plot had some great potential, but instead you got to witness one scene of frustrated people not knowing how to deal with their emotions after another.

Really, it's one of those books that has an interesting premise, but doesn't go anywhere. The interesting premise is this: a couple has twins and the father sneaks away with the one twin who has Downs Syndrome. The mother doesn't know about this baby and the baby is raised by the father's coworker. Well,  after the initial birth scene, which is good, nothing happens for 200 pages. The author drags you through the book, dangling the moment that the mother finds out about her daughter in front of you.

I began to care less and less about the characters, but stayed with the book because it was interesting to see where it went and I had already invested so much time in reading it. There were too many long descriptions of things that didn't matter to me, and no matter how hard I tried, I didn't get to know the characters in the way I thought I should.

I didn't really care about any of the characters very much in the end, if at all, and I think that's what really soured me on this book.

I struggled to finish this book, and I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone.

Rezension:

“No man has ever loved a woman as much as I love you. Nothing will ever come before you. I don’t know what else I have to do to prove to you that I won’t let you down again. I won’t hurt you. You don’t have to be alone anymore. I need you.”

After the traumatic cliffhanger we were left with at the end of Fallen Too Far, both our beloved characters are emotional train wrecks. Blaire has run away from Rosemary and from the man she loves, and is hoping to find solace in the familiarity of her home town. She is left with nothing in life, no possessions, no plans for the future, no family that she can rely on to help her heal her shattered soul. She craves to have a family again, to feel unconditional love again, to mean something to someone. Everything she has always believed to be true has been shaken, questioned, attacked, and we find our gentle heroine heartbroken and alone.

Rush is battling his own demons after Blaire’s departure. For the first time in his life he has fallen in love with someone body and soul, and for the first time in his life he wants to put her well-being first, before anyone else’s, including his sister Nan’s.

It takes a while but they'll find their way back to each other.

Overall, I liked it but didn't love it. At times it was a little too much drama for me and I'm not really contented with the ending.

Rezension:

"Nothing speaks louder than your heart. Listen to what it's telling you."

Beauty From Pain book 1 in the Beauty series introduces us to Jack Henry aka Lachlan and Laurelyn aka Paige as they embark on a three-month anonymous, no questions asked, strictly sexual affair.

Laurelyn and her best friend Addison are in Australia for three months visiting Addison's brother, Ben. Laurelyn has her own personal reasons for making the trip and she is welcoming the change of scenery. Australia is about as far as one can go from the heart-break she experienced in Nashville. On her first night out in Wagga Wagga, Laurelyn meets a sexy mysterious man who leaves her heart thumping and her mind consumed.

Jack McLachlan is a vineyard magnate who has decided to lead a private life due to his wealth and public profile. He prefers short-term, no-strings-attached relationships where both parties are aware of what they are getting into. He was looking for the right woman to share his bed for no longer than 3 months. A no-strings attached companionship at the end of which both parties would walk away. The moment he sees Laurelyn, he knew she was it.

When the two finally get together, after a lot of “sneaky” manipulation on Jack’s part,, he proposes that they have a 3 month relationship with no strings attached. The impending three-month date, marking the ending to their affair serves as a constant reminder making them both careless and desperate. Spending time together makes it more and more difficult to follow through in the rules of the games. Will they be able to sort out their feelings before Laurelyn is scheduled to return home to the US?

Spellbinding story-telling! An all-consuming romance! Scorching hot sex scenes! Well developed and charismatic characters! I very much enjoyed Jack Henry’s and Laurelyn’s journey. Beauty from Pain surprised me in the best way! I didn’t have many expectations for this book, but I really loved it! The story was fantastic, the characters were great, and it had some sexy scenes. It was just overall an awesome read.
