Bücher mit dem Tag "garden"

In Teilen ist diese Geschichte, in der die 10jährige Mary nach dem Tod ihrer Eltern aus Indien auf das seltsame englische Anwesen eines ihr bisher unbekannten Onkels zieht, sehr zeitlos. Es geht viel um den ewigen Kreislauf der Natur, die mit liebevollem Blick und insbesondere bezogen auf das Erblühen im Frühling sehr poetisch betrachtet und beschrieben wird.

In weiteren Bereichen wirkt die Erzählung geradezu modern, insbesondere wenn es um den Zusammenhang von psychischem und körperlichem Wohlbefinden geht. Es gibt aber auch Aspekte, die aus heutiger Sicht problematisch sind, unter anderem betrifft das den Blick auf Indien, der deutlich durch den Kolonialismus geprägt ist.

Diese Stellen und die Tatsache, dass es doch einige Längen gibt, führen dazu, dass ich sehr gut nachvollziehen kann, dass die Geschichte für Kinder heutzutage üblicherweise gekürzt verlegt wird, obwohl es sich ja auch bei der ursprünglichen Version um ein Kinderbuch handelt.

Aus meiner Sicht als erwachsene Leserin ist es eine sprachlich sehr schöne Erzählung, die ich trotz einiger fragwürdiger Passagen für durchaus lesenswert halte. 

Through the seasons of the year with Emma’s observations

The story of Emma, her birds and sunflowers in the garden is beautifully illustrated. There is a lot of movement in the illustrations. Children can get a first idea of how nature works throughout the year.

I love the four fun activities at the end of the book. Four ideas on how to work with this book in a creative way and how to bring the children into action.

Emma watches the change of nature in the garden. She adores the finches, especially when she has the opportunity to observe them. Birds fly, flowers grow, but then, for some reasons, the flowers and birds leave. And come back again. Joy, loss, hope, surprise. Emma sees all the seasons of the year and gets a big surprise for her birthday - from mother nature.

Content (LB): "After losing her parents, young Mary Lennox is sent from India to live her her uncle's gloomy mansion on the wild English moors. She is lonely and has no one to play with, but one day she learns of a secret garden somewhere in to grounds that no one is allowed to enter. Then Mary uncovers an old key in a flowerbed - and a gust of magic leads her to the hidden door. Slowly she turns the key and enters a world she could never have imagined."

Cover: The Cover is made for children. I think there are better covers of books for this story but with the children and the garden it is fitting to the story.

Opinion: At the beginning I couldn't really like Mary but during the story I liked her more and more because she changed from her character and I always like it if characters evolves. I really like to accompany Mary in this story. I like the idea of the story, children can learn something from it and I can really commend it.
