Kurzmeinung: As weird as weird can be, with some lengths but also many hilariously funny passages

When private detective Dirk Gently arrives several hours late for his appointment with his only client he finds him decapitated with his head revolving on a turntable's record, the police in firm belief that it can only be suicide as nobody could have entered the room and a slightly violent teenager who punches his nose upstairs. As if this were not enough soon a link with a vanished passenger check-in desk (including the check-in girl) at London Heathrow becomes apparent, Dirk Gently has some trouble with a fierce eagle and a presumably very dirty fridge and several immortal Gods seem to walk the Earth...
It is a whimsical story with many great passages that are hilariously funny. The characters get into some very bizarre and yet in some respect recognisable situations, often finding exemplary or not-so-exemplary creative solutions for the troubles in life, e.g. how to speed up the repair of your car. The way the story was told, however, bothered me a bit - sometimes the novel has some lengths, sometimes, especially at the end, important events are summarized in a few sentences which I find a pity.
Nonetheless it is a highly entertaining, cleverly written novel for those who do not fear weirdness.
