Plot
I’ve left some clues for you. If you want them, turn the page. If you don’t, put the book back on the shelf, please. At the urge of her lucky-in-love brother, sixteen-year-old Lily has left a red notebook full of dares on her favourite bookshop shelf, waiting for just the right guy to come along and accept. Curious, snarky Dash isn’t one to back down from a challenge – and the Book of Dares is the perfect thing to keep him occupied this Christmas. As they send each other on a snowbound scavenger hunt across Manhattan, they’re falling for each other on paper. But finding out if their real selves share their on-page chemistry could be their biggest dare yet.
My Opinion
I LOVED that book. Not just all the parallels between Lily (which would be my second name if I would chose) and me, with playing football, loving books and dogs, but also her characteristics... I always thought 'hey, I do that!'. I love Lily because she's kind of an outsider and mostly, she likes to be all by herself. Her grandfather protects her and she isn't permitted to to much. When her parents go on a vacation in Fiji, she's left with Benny at home, who doesn't care at all what she doing so she's free to do whatever she wants. I love the different dares they're giving each other, it's just so funny to imagine them doing all of them. Lily and Dash are just different from other characters... They are more realistic, you have to feeling to know a Dash or a Lily in real life too. My favourite character was Miss Basil E. aka Great Aunt Ida, which not only Lily (because she's a relative, obviously) but also Dash likes. She gives the story some fresh air when it's about to get a little bit boring. Honestly the story keeps rumbling on and on and I'm more than excited to read the second book. It's not a perfect love on first sight love story and that exactly what I liked the most. It's real, it's honest and I felt like I'm living in the characters.
Conclusion
Not only when it's Christmas, but throughout the year I'd highly recommend this book. Amazing story!
